Nike's 45 Grand Street facility was in a prime SoHo location in NYC. Due for a re-design that would open up the space for private trainings, consumer-facing events, and merchandising collaborations, the gym approached Institute for an interior refresh. Central to the brief was modularity - not only in the space’s ability to adapt to each user’s personal experience, but also in hosting a range of programming.
Institute’s goal in redesigning the facility was to create a fully progressive and functional fitness experience. The space had changeable set pieces, innovative storage use, and flexibility to repurpose individual rooms. The use of raw, deconstructed materials signified high-performance and functionality.
